Cleaning vs. Disinfecting vs. Sanitizing
All of these new terms can be confusing since they all seem to have a similar meaning, but there is a major difference between cleaning, sanitizing, and disinfecting.
Cleaning removes dirt, dust, and soils from surfaces. Disinfecting kills harmful bacteria and viruses on surfaces, while sanitizing lowers the germ count to safe level as defined by public health standards (typically necessary for surfaces that contact food).
Additional treatments may be necessary if someone who was sick came into contact with the property as well. High-touch surfaces are some of the most important to consistently keep clean under normal circumstances but even more so during a pandemic.
